Pollock Pines
If you're dreaming of a Northern California engagement session that blends golden lake views, moody pines, and just a little adventure—Sly Park Recreation Area in Pollock Pines might be your dream come true.
Jenkinson Lake, nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills, is my go-to for couples who want a mix of soft romance, editorial detail, and real, candid connection. This session was one of those “you just feel it” evenings. Gorgeous light. Sweet moments. A couple who brought the magic with them. They wanted Tahoe without the drive, and this gave us all the Tahoe vibes we love.

Why Sly Park / Jenkinson Lake is
That Girl 📍
This spot hits every mark for a dreamy engagement session:
- Towering pines + woodland trails for soft, filtered light
- Shoreline rocks and docks perfect for silhouettes and movement shots
- Golden hour over the lake that glows like a soft reflector
- And it’s only about an hour from Sacramento—but feels like you escaped to your own little world
It’s peaceful. It’s photogenic. It’s a vibe.

Styling the Session ✨
We started with a neutral-toned, woodsy outfit—a soft sage green dress that blended seamlessly with the pine trees and late summer greenery. They changed into a more elevated, romantic look for the dock and lakeshore: muted blush with warm earthy tones that popped against the water and granite textures.
💡 Pro tip for couples: Stick with textures like chiffon, linen, or silk. They flow beautifully, photograph well, and add that luxurious editorial look to your photos.

The Flow of the Evening 🕰️
We began in the shaded trailhead area, using the trees to create intimacy and softness while everyone warmed up to the camera. From there, we followed a gentle trail to the lake and caught the golden hour light dancing across the water. The movement, the wind, the way their laughter echoed across the shoreline—it was pure magic.
We finished the session with some barefoot water side shots, a slow dance in the sand, and a quiet moment by the water as the sun dipped behind the ridge.

What to Know Before You Go
If you're considering a session at Jenkinson Lake:
- Park at the main day-use lot or boat ramp if you’re hauling props or gear.
- Expect to walk between spots—comfy shoes are a must (yes, even if we’re shooting barefoot).
- Bring water, a change of clothes, and maybe a blanket or towel.
- Timing is key: 6:15–8:00 PM is the golden window in late summer.
- And don’t forget your day-use pass!
